Fireflies are found on every continent of the world except Antartica.

Worldwide there are over 2,000 species of fireflies. 

North America has over 125 species

Fireflies are not a type of fly. They are not a type of dragonfly. And they are not a type of butterfly.

They are actually a type of beetle!

Most fireflies are a type of flying beetle.

These beetles vary in size from about half and inch in length to less than a quarter inch

Why do fireflies Flash?

It's all about finding a mate.

The males flash to attract females that flash back.
